Focus Direct Looking Back, Now and Tomorrow.

Bacolod is a city in the Philippines. The capital city of the province of Negros Occidental. Having a total of 511,820 inhabitants according to the 2010 census, it is the most populous city in the Western Visayas Region and the 17th most populous city of the Philippines. Notable for its famous MassKara Festival, a Mardi-Gras like festival and a spectacular vivid mix of dance, color and music which is normally held during the 3rd week of October. Bacolod City is well known for being a relatively friendly city, and bears the nickname “City of Smiles”. Bacolod City is recently ranked no. 1 in a survey by MoneySense Magazine as the “Best Place to Live in the Philippines”.

It was on June 5, 2009, four years ago that Focus Services added 165 more seats to Focus Direct its Bacolod City Call Center facility July of that year. Marking further expansion of its first and only site in the Philippines.

Fours years ago, Dan Liljenquist, our President and Chief of Operations office of the Roy, Utah-based Focus Services, visited us here in Bacolod City to announce Focus Services expansion plan. He was joined by Focus Pacific IT Director Julie Gretchen Dizon; Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chairperson of Bacolod-Negros Occidental Federation for Information and Communication Technology; and Ricky Monfort, owner of Monfort IT Centre which houses the Focus Direct contact center along 22nd Lacson Streets, Bacolod City.

The additional 165 seats will increase Focus Direct call center seats to 375 next month, from only 25 seats when it started its Bacolod operations in 2006.

Liljenquist, who first came to Bacolod six years ago, said the expansion also means almost 200 new jobs, bringing its workforce in the city to more than 450 and still continues to grow even up to now. Focus Direct handles a variety of accounts from IT, Software, Real Estates, Financing, Chat and Customer Service.

Liljenquist said Focus Services chose Bacolod for its Philippine site because their company feels the support of the local government to call center locators. Bacolod City ranks 3rd among the top ten “Next Wave Cities” of the Philippines and the best location for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and off-shoring according to the 2012 report of the Commission on Information and Communications Technology. Bacolod is also known as the Land of Sweet People, and is known for its world class culinary heritage, including its inasal (roast chicken on skewers) and sweet dessert treats.

Bacolod City is one of the homes of Focus Services international facilities. Focus Services is a privately owned call center service provider, specializing in multi-product telesales and customer relationship management. Founded in 1995 with two employees, Focus Services has grown year over year by building strong, collaborative and effective vendor relationships with clients across multiple industries. Currently, Focus has over 3,000 employees working in 8 Focus facilities, both domestically and internationally.

I’m very proud to be a part of the culture here, said Liljenquist. We hope we fit in nicely, we think we do, and we really appreciate the hospitality that everyone has shown us, he said.  Focus Direct customer service agents are very diverse, talented multi-taskers and are very equipped in handling different accounts at the same time. We take pride in that, said Liljenquist.

Focus Services and Focus Direct will continue to expand its business, create more jobs and support Bacolod City, as it continues to stay in the no.1 spot as the best place to invest and live in the Philippines.
